Why Choose This Vancouver Island Waterfall Photography Tour?
This Vancouver Island Waterfall Tour is designed for photographers of all skill levels and focuses primarily on waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and bodies of water on Southern Vancouver Island.
Join our guided photographic experience led by a local photographer with over 10 years experience who knows this island intimately: its waterfalls, beaches, tides, rivers, creeks, and lakes. Engage with the Four Elements – Earth, Water, Fire, Air – while leaning into the fundamentals of waterfall photography.
Group size is limited to maximum 3 participants so I can offer you hands-on support, custom coaching, and plenty of space for everyone’s creative process.
Waterfall Focused Learning Outcomes
- How to work with the soft, diffused light common in rainforest waterfall environments
- Long exposure techniques for smoothing water, capturing flow, and shaping movement
- Working with polarizers and NDs to reduce glare, deepen tones, and craft your desired look
- Compositional strategies for busy waterfall scenes such as layering, leading lines, natural framing
- Reading water patterns and using them to guide the viewer’s eye
- How to create both grand waterfall compositions and intimate detail studies
- Shooting for mood: fog, drizzle, overcast glow, soft forest reflections
What You Can Expect

This is a 4-day photography adventure across Southern Vancouver Island for photographers of all levels. This isn’t just a photo tour; it’s an immersive experience in one of my favorite corners of the island.
We will visit waterfalls along the Wild West Coast of Vancouver Island, while taking in the rugged coastline ambiance.
With over a decade behind the lens and 45 years spent exploring this region, I’ll take you to some of the most magical, moody, and photogenic spots around. Depending on the weather we’ll chase waterfalls like Mary Vine Falls, Mystic Beach, and Sombrio Beach Hidden Falls.
I’ll also share a few of my favorite hidden gems along the way; those off-the-map waterfalls and some end of the road beaches that I have enjoyed more times than I can count.
Waterfall terrain on Vancouver Island is beautiful, but it is also rugged. Trails often include roots, rocks, mud, wet boardwalks, slippery approaches, and short but uneven inclines.
- Easy to moderate hikes (1–3 miles round-trip)
- Wet, slick, moss-covered surfaces
- Occasional rock hopping or small stream crossings
- Short bursts of elevation gain
- Forest shade and cool, damp air
Waterproof boots and trekking poles are recommended. We move slowly, safely, and with intention, giving everyone plenty of time to find their compositions without rushing.
